IF YOU USE BEAUTIFUL TOOLS, YOU MAKE BEAUTIFUL THINGS
FROM THE FORGE
TO YOUR TABLE
At The Tool Room, every object begins with a question: how can beauty and function become one?
Guided by the philosophy “If you use beautiful tools, you make beautiful things,” artist-blacksmith Conrad Hicks forges cookware that brings functional art into daily life.
Our earliest creations were tools; built with purpose, refined by instinct. Over time, that instinct became our definition of beauty. Every forged piece is an evolution of use, design, and human touch.
BY CONRAD HICKS
BLACKSMITH & ARTIST
Born in Cape Town in 1966, Conrad Hicks studied Art and Design at the Cape Technikon, graduating with distinction in 1986.
He specialises in hand-forged metalwork, a technique that bridges his fine art practice with his architectural and functional designs.
Conrad works from The Bijou, a restored Art Deco cinema in Observatory, where he explores the intersection between art, material, and utility.
His approach: the best designs emerge directly from the process itself.
